Simon regards himself as much as a practitioner as a thinker. He writes, "Thinking without application is an arid and airless practice, devoid of life and credibility. If you are going to write, then you should also be putting your words into practice. Only then will you discover if they have traction.
My own work with clients has allowed me to experience and learn many disciplines and practices- from the preacher to the poet, the coach to the counsellor, the leader to the facilitator, the consultant to the host.
My craft, if I were to articulate it in one dominant metaphor, is that of hospitality- the craft of creating a space in which one's guests are welcomed. The central experience of those I work with should be one of friendly space, stimulating engagement, rich nourishment, splendid learning. It should leave them in some way changed. It is the very antithesis of merely passing on information. It crosses boundaries between the personal and the professional, the spiritual and the material, the aesthetic and the pragmatic."
