As an insane example of unlikely and light-hearted innovation, Simon developed a new system for sprint starting blocks in 1999.
Using his experience as an athlete himself, as well as biomechanical understanding from his Biological Science degree, Simon developed the Z Flex starting block system. This system utilises the tensile power of the athletes tendons to load and store energy prior to the start.
The system may one day be seen in the Olympic 100m final, but it has some prior testing to undergo first!
